COUNSELORS ON TEAMS

Counselors are assigned to all six teams at the ninth and tenth grade.  Counselors for 10Y are Julie Sullivan  (students with last names beginning with A-J and Brian Irwin (students with last names beginning with K-Z).   We will work with your children and the team throughout the year.

Counselors meet with team teachers about twice a week.  This provides an opportunity to discuss individual students.  The team often brainstorms strategies to further support some students and to further challenge other students.  Sometimes parents, the individual student and/or the student’s advisor are invited to join these conversations.  The goal of these meetings is to promote the personalization of a student’s education and to prevent individuals from “falling through the cracks.”

Counselors also play additional roles on teams.  We often provide input to curriculum and team policies and procedures.  On some occasions counselors are involved directly in the classroom, either as presenters of curriculum on their own or as part of the teaching team delivering a particular unit of instruction.  We also participate in decisions about team policies and procedures.

Finally, counselors are a primary link for parents to the school.  We participate in or facilitate most parent conferences.  If you want to set up a meeting, discuss your son/daughter’s progress, or explore issues of a more personal nature, please call Brian at 673-9940, ext. 311 or email him at birwin@sprise.com.  You can reach Julie at ext. 316 or email her at jsullivan@sprise.com.   We are available to meet with you or set up a meeting with the Team.
