Grading and Assessment

Operational Definitions:
The Processes:

In order to assess – Use a rubric describing the expectations for quality work along the continuum: Advanced, Proficient, Basic, and Novice.  Provide the student feedback on the work as described by the rubric

In order to grade – Given the work’s quality as described by the continuum: Advanced, Proficient, Basic, and Novice, assign a numerical value to the work within the following ranges.

 Advanced    90 – 100

Proficient    80 – 89

Basic             70 – 79

Novice       below a 70

To Report a Grade – Average all the numerical values and assign a letter grade based on the translations* (for example, an average of 88 is a B+).  The letter grade will then be “bubbled” along with an effort grade (4,3,2,1) at the end of trimesters and the year.
