SAU #39 Mission: We will engage, support, and challenge all learners.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As many of you may know, this week one of our students, Kyle Morin, and his family lost their home and their dog to a fire. We have received many phone calls inquiring about their needs and have received requests from the family. At this time, the family is looking for gift cards both for food and clothing as well as some manual labor to help with salvage. They also anticipate some possible storage needs and would appreciate opportunities for Kyle to spend time with friends. Gift cards can be dropped off in the school office. If you wish to help with salvage or storage or would be able to spend some time with Kyle, please contact Jeanne Morin at 345-5737. The family is currently staying with friends and would appreciate dinners on a temporary basis. If you are interested in providing a meal to feed 5 people, please e-mail Mrs. Belak at bbelak@sprise.com.
Ah, technology… Since the holiday break, I have been inundated with disciplinary referrals for students carrying cell phones, including camera phones, i-pods, MP-3 players, and the like. These items are not permitted at school. We understand that parents may have valid reasons for asking their children to carry phones. If, however, a student is seen carrying electronic items on his or her person during the school day, the item will be confiscated. Depending on the nature of the offense, the item may be returned at the end of the school day, or we may contact parents to pick it up at their convenience. Please help us out by reminding your child of these rules.
Both our school Geography Bee and the Spelling Bee were held during the last couple of weeks. We congratulate all of our participants who worked hard in recent months to expand their knowledge! The winner of both events was 6th grader Chandler McKenzie who will represent our school in the Regional Spelling Bee in March and will take a qualifying test for participation in the state Geography Bee. The runners-up, and alternates for these events, are 5th grader Jasper Jones for the Geography Bee and 3rd grader Celia Macarelli for the spelling bee.
Please join us on February 11th for an assembly at 1:30 P.M. featuring a Chinese ribbon dancer and musician playing a traditional instrument. Fifth grade students will be working with a performer that day and will be sharing what they learn at the assembly.
Have a wonderful weekend!
