SAU #39 Mission: We will engage, support, and challenge all learners.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The end of the first quarter of the school year is upon us! Please don’t forget those teacher appointments you have already made for parent conferences. Teachers look forward to sharing student progress with you! We value your involvement in your child’s education!
Thank you to the Mont Vernon PTA for hosting the Scholastic Book Fair and kicking-off movie night for the community. The proceeds from the Book Fair are used to purchase books for classrooms and are much appreciated by students and staff. Tonight’s movie is Charlotte’s Web—the “new” version.
We continue our very strong SAU and school focus on literacy this year, and teachers are working collaboratively to refine instruction and address the individual needs of students. We are making use of a variety of assessment tools at different grade levels (NWEA at grades 2-6, DIBELS at grades K-2, writing fluency and prompts at all grades) to help us carefully identify each student’s strengths and target areas for growth; NWEA, DIBELS, and the writing fluency tool have been used with large numbers of students across the country and provide us with useful comparative data as we develop our own, local baselines.
Our whole staff is focusing on reading comprehension strategies during our late starts and reading (or re-reading) and discussing the book Strategies that Work. Our literacy coach, Ann Allwarden, will be hosting a parent workshop on reading strategies sometime before the end of 2007.
If you are receiving this paper edition of my parent letter you can switch over to the electronic version by sending an e-mail to Charlotte Jameson. Please include a note in the “re.” line asking to be added to our e-mail lists.
All the best,
Meredith Nadeau
MVVS Principal
