SAU #39 Mission:  We will engage, support, and challenge all learners.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy New Year!  I hope that 2008 brings health and good fortune to all of you.  I am excited about all of the incredible things happening around the school this year and look forward to it being a good year for your child, as well.

Reading and writing continue to be a major focus here at MVVS, and, with the support of our literacy coach, Ann Allwarden, we are continuing our focus on improving student writing.  Student writing progress is being monitored periodically through writing prompts which we score using the Six-Trait WritingTM model and also through a curriculum based measurement tool which looks at writing fluency  based on the number or words produced over a 3-minute period.

Writing remains in the spotlight with a visit to SAU #39 from the well-known New Hampshire writer and educator, Ralph Fletcher.  Mr. Fletcher will be speaking with parents K-12 about boy writers, but parents of girls (I promise) will also find his talk engaging and informative.  Mr. Fletcher’s talks are free and are being sponsored by the Clark/Wilkins schools and the Amherst PTA. The presentations will be held at Clark School from 1-2:15 and 7-8:15 P.M. on January 31st.  Please contact the MVVS office to register to attend.  I guarantee that attending will be worth your time.

If you are receiving this paper edition of my parent letter, you can switch over to the electronic version by sending an e-mail to Charlotte Jameson.  Please include a note in the “re.” line asking to be added to our e-mail lists.
