SAU #39 Mission:  We will engage, support, and challenge all learners.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you were “carried away” by today’s Grandparents’ and Senior Friends’ celebration and its transportation theme.  This is an event the school community looks forward to each year and one of the many things which makes MVVS such a unique place for children to learn.

Last week learning, and particularly reading, was in the spotlight at our kick-off student recognition assembly (SRA).  The assembly was preceded by a parade featuring some community and student torch-bearers and was led by Mont Vernon’s own police and fire departments.  Hopefully your son or daughter has filled you in on the Million Minutes campaign and you have had a chance to sign his or her reading log and even complete one of your own.  Further information about the program is available on our homepage ;  just click to accept the Million Minutes challenge.  We hope that the beautiful sign in front of the school will be moving to the Daland library sometime in the near future so Mont Vernon residents can keep tabs on the progress toward the Million Minutes of reading goal.

In an effort to reduce paper and copier use, this will be the last paper edition of my parent letter for everyone who has supplied us with an e-mail address.  Our next parent letter will be sent out electronically on October 18th.  Watch for an e-mail test in the next couple of weeks.  Lunch menus are also posted electronically now and can be found at the SAU website.  The menu is also available in the Milford Cabinet or copies can be obtained from the main office, if needed.

MVVS will host its first Everyday Math parent night of the school year on 10/25 at 7 P.M.  Our math consultant, Loren Hallett, will share information about the program philosophy and framework, helping your child with math, classroom routines, and more.  Everyday Math has also introduced a new web-site for parents which contains tips on working with your child, activities to do at home, and more:  .

All the best,
