Classroom Weekly Peek

Week of June 9- 19 2008

   READING/LANGUAGE ARTS    Students should  be reading at  home everyday for at least 20 minutes.

Guided Reading: Students are instructed in small guided reading groups at their instructional level.

Theme: "Travel Time" Characters in this theme find that adventure awaits them, whether they are close to home or far away

Story:  Read a variety of Chris Van Allsburg books

 

Skill:  inferencing

 

Phonics:   compound words, homophones

 

Writing: Descriptive writing, revising, editing

 

SPELLING- There will be no more spelling tests this year.

     MATH Students should  memorize the addition and subtraction facts through 18. Daily home practice is most beneficial.

Unit: Money

Telling time to the hour, half hour, 5 minutes, to the minute, before and after the hour

Review of addition and subtraction with regrouping

 

SOCIAL STUDIES

Unit: A World of Many People

Vocabulary: culture, immigrant, custom, tradition
